The number of international tourists on Icelandic soil has been growing exponentially in recent years, thanks in part to the new low-cost air routes, which make it possible to reach the country in just four hours, or less, from European countries and six hours for those travelling from the United States. Íslandsbanki Research has forecast an influx of up to 1.2 million tourists by 2022, confirming tourism as one of the country's main sources of GDP and many of the investments planned by the government will go to enhance and increase the tourism infrastructure, offering the possibility of accessing the most remote areas, even in winter. A country dedicated to sustainability, which owes its peculiarities precisely to its position isolated from the rest of the world. A condition that invites us to reflect on the possible threat that this great expansion and the very low costs of new airlines bring.
